What Are Carbon Steel Pipes Used For?

Carbon steel pipes are created by perforating steel ingots or solid round steel into capillary tubes and then rolling cold rolling, or cold drawing them. Carbon steel pipe plays a significant role in the steel pipe sector in my country.

Carbon steel pipe is used for both above- and below-ground liquid, gas, and steam services. It should not be used in corrosive services, although it can be used in caustic ones.

Carbon Steel Pipe Types

There are two types of carbon steel pipes: hot-rolled and cold-rolled steel pipes.

  • General steel pipes, low and medium pressure boiler steel pipes, high-pressure boiler steel pipes, alloy steel pipes, stainless steel pipes, petroleum cracking pipes, geological steel pipes, and other steel pipes are all types of hot-rolled carbon steel pipes.
  • Cold-rolled carbon steel pipes include carbon thin-walled steel pipes, alloy thin-walled steel pipes, stainless thin-walled steel pipes, and special-shaped steel pipes, in addition to general steel pipes, low and medium pressure boiler steel pipes, high-pressure boiler steel pipes, alloy steel pipes, stainless steel pipes, petroleum cracking pipes, and other steel pipes.

Carbon Steel Pipes vs Stainless Steel Pipes

Q195 and Q235 are common carbon steel pipes. Carbon steel, also known as magnet alloy steel, contains a minor amount of silicon, manganese, sulfur, and phosphorus in addition to carbon and iron. Stainless steel is chromium-nickel steel that contains other metal components such as chromium, nickel, and copper in addition to carbon and iron. Over 12.5 percent chromium in the steel pipe will produce a protective coating (passivation film) on the steel pipeā€™s surface, providing anti-corrosion protection. As a result, corrosion resistance is the primary difference between the two. Stainless steel pipes are corrosion-resistant steel, butĀ carbon steel seamless pipesĀ rust easily.

Stainless steel pipe is lustrous and available in a variety of grades that can increase the amount of chromium in the alloy until the steel finish is mirror-like. Carbon steel pipe and stainless steel pipe are easily distinguishable to the untrained eye. The matte appearance of carbon steel pipe is similar to that of a cast-iron kettle or wrought iron fencing.

Stainless steel is a corrosion-resistant type of steel. Chromium is used as a particular hardening agent to give it this property. Stainless steel has the basic qualities of steel with greatly higher corrosion resistance due to the addition of chromium. Stainless steel, like carbon steel, forms an oxide coating when exposed to oxygen in the air. However, instead of an iron oxide layer, a chromium oxide layer is formed. The problem with carbon steel is that iron oxide is a volatile chemical that continues to aid in oxidation.Ā

Chromium oxide, on the other hand, is inert, forming a protective coating that prevents further oxidation. As a result, stainless steel pipes are suitable for open systems as well as applications needing high levels of sanitation, such as the food and brewing sectors.
