Do you want to do some hardscaping in your own backyard? To build a simple stone patio, follow these eight simple steps.
- Use pegs and ropes to mark the deck area.
- 6-inch decking To avoid flooding, dig a deck with a slight slope (about 14 inch per square foot).
- When you’re satisfied with the base, firmly press it into the soil until it’s flat.
- Use landscaping fabric to aid drainage and keep weeds at bay between the rocks.
- Add 2-inch gravel to the base and push it into place. Push down again with another 2 inches of gravel.
- Cover the compressed gravel with a screed of 5 cm thick sand. Press again after flattening the sand.
- Place the patio stone carefully on the compressed board.
- Polymer sand should be used to fill the four seams. When wet, the sand acts as a mortar, helping to keep the stone in place. It also inhibits the growth of weeds and repels water.
